I love this book! This book makes me want to get out there and conquer the world. I respect Gene Simmons even more now after reading his book. I was a huge Kiss fan growing up in the 70's and 80's and I had no idea all the other jobs he has outside of Kiss.

According to Gene Simmons, the way to earn money (and it's all about the money) is to work hard, work all the time and never stop working. The book is split into two parts, one about Simmons and one about the advice he has for one to become successful in life. The first part is actually pretty interesting. It traces his life from being born in Israel in poverty and then coming to America and how he comes through, working hard and earning money to support his mother and then on to establishing KISS. Unfortunately the meaty parts are really short. The early parts of his life is really interesting and the impressions of a young poor boy coming to America is page-turning material but after turning a page, then that material runs out. While his experience with capitalism is interesting it's also slightly off-putting in a way. Perhaps it is in the missing empathy for other life-styles that is offending to me. Simmons tells us about his way but without remorse and portrays it as the only way.The second part of the book is not better. There Simmons boils down the lessons he learned throughout life to let the reader make their own fortune. But it's again only grounded in his own experience which simply cannot work for everybody. Simmons' intense focus on earning money is also jarring as it seems like the purpose of earning money is to earn more money. It's great if it works for him, but the book discards trivial things like vacations and human relationships for the sole reason of earning more money. Simmons also believes that if what you do is what you love, then apparently it's also something that you can do indefinitely without rest or focusing on health.I went into this book hoping that it would be a fun read with some few golden truths packaged in stories from the rock world which I don't know anything about. Instead it's a one-sided tale from a workaholic who doesn't seem to care much about the fact that money is a tool, a means to the end, but focuses on how to make more and more money with no regard on anything else but money. I would not recommend this if you're looking for business advice or as a biography (I think he has written a proper autobiography).

Gene Simmons is an interesting, thoughtful, self-made man with a variety of insights - some of them useful. I've personally offered to pay my sons NOT to get married before they're at least 30 years old, and more each year after that until they're financially and emotionally ready for the commitment. So I'm right on board with some of Me, Inc.'s wisdom. That said, Mr. Simmons (and his editor I suppose) is unable to mask his egomania, and his stories of his own success are (unnecessarily) split roughly 70/30 between useful, inspirational thoughts, and almost foolish self-aggrandizement. Hmm. Let me just think for a moment: "Baby 101". Yes, that's genius, let me lock-down that domain name, and then get myself some appointments with some senior leaders at large corporations and get this entrepreneurial venture underway! In the meantime, I will date but not marry a Playboy Playmate (of the year, I believe) for 27 years without marrying her. Really? Neither of these likely are feats that can be accomplished with at least an 8 digit bank account, and I'm fairly certain Mr. Simmons passed that threshold some years ago. I bought this book for my son, but thought I'd read it first. Not sure I'll pass it on at all. Probably not useful for him until he gets a bit further along. A near miss!

I woke up approximately 26 hours ago. I worked last night. I have to work again tonight. I haven't slept yet. I've been working on building the solid foundation that my latest project will need in order to have the greatest chance at achieving success once I pull the trigger next week and begin releasing content.I do this a lot. It's standard practice for me right now. But today I tripped over this title that I was completely unaware existed until about 7 hours ago and I grabbed the audiobook, then just now the Kindle AND an autographed hard copy. Yes, I spent way more than I should have but this is one of those few things I decided to allow myself to be frivelous with. Thanks to what I proclaimed on Facebook to be the best audiobook ever recorded I had a drill sergeant pumping me up the whole time I worked this morning. I haven't had that before. I do now. Thank you, Gene, for writing this book, and for recording the audiobook YOURSELF. It makes all the difference, and I haven't felt so sure that all the long hours and hard work are worth it the way I did today in a long time. For my review - The book is hard hitting at times. Gene regularly says things that aren't "politically correct" and openly admits it. For instance, the point he makes about learning to speak English clearly and without an accent if you are a foreigner or his advice to cut people out of your life that are sucking your life away may hurt feelings. If you are overly sensitive to straight forward and sometimes harsh statements he clearly proclaims that you should buy another book. But if you want a real life rags to riches icon explain exactly what you need to do in order to prepare yourself for your own personal journey who won't pull punches and will tell you the TRUTH in a way that you can clearly understand and utilize this is a terrific title.(Metaphor Ahead!) Of course there is no way anyone else can drive the car for you as you make your way across country to whatever destination you choose, but Gene Simmons is someone you can trust to help you decide what supplies you'll likely need to pack and what stops you may want to make along the way. He's been there. He came to America from nothing. He didn't know the language. He didn't know the customs. He had plenty of opportunity to allow pride and excuses dominate his life. He chose to do his due dilligence, learn the world of finance and business, adapt and win.The first half of this book explains how he did it and why he did what he did. The second half of this book directs his accumulated lifetime of wisdom directly at Y-O-U and although they are only his opinions, if you put your pride aside, put on a thick skin and dedicate yourself to making YOU a success, you won't find another self help book that comes anywhere close to being in the same league as ME, INC. If you're like me and already have a basic understanding of what is necessary to find success and already have the drive to do whatever is necessary to win you should find yourself frequently getting pumped.I highly recommend at least one listen to anyone out there who has a desire to build a better life for themselves, for those they care about and for humanity in general. Because one other great point he makes is this: Winning is not meant to be beneficial to the winner alone, but rather it allows the winner an ability to bestow blessings upon everyone around them. (Not a quote, but that is the idea)Check it out for yourself. If you accept the fact that you alone are responsible for your own success then you will probably enjoy it immensely. If you like watching TV for hours every night after work, partying your weekends away and tend to let life happen TO you, you'll probably hate it.Unless it changes your mind and gets you to think about starting down a new path. The choice is yours.
